How to Play Audio on Two (or More) Devices at the Same Time on Windows
Windows makes you pick one audio output at a time. But plenty of times you want the same sound playing on more than one device at once — your laptop speakers plus a Bluetooth speaker to fill a room, or two headphones so you and a friend can watch the same thing. Here's every way to do it, from the built-in tricks to the simplest option.
The built-in Windows ways (and their catch)
Stereo Mix + "Listen to this device." Open the Sound Control Panel, go to the Recording tab, enable Stereo Mix, open its Properties → Listen tab, tick "Listen to this device," and pick a second output. It works on some PCs — but not all sound cards expose Stereo Mix, and it usually adds a noticeable delay, so the two devices drift out of sync and you hear an echo.
Windows 11 "shared audio." Newer Windows 11 builds have a genuine first-party version of this: open Quick Settings, and if your machine supports it you can send audio to two Bluetooth devices at once. No downloads, no drivers, a couple of clicks. When it's available it's the obvious thing to try first, and it's free.
The catch is eligibility, and it's a real one. It shipped on Copilot+ PCs and newer Bluetooth stacks, so most machines in use today simply don't offer it — and if you don't see it in Quick Settings there is no download that adds it, because it's a hardware and Windows-build requirement rather than a feature flag. It's also two devices, both Bluetooth: you can't include your laptop speakers or a wired pair, which rules out one of the most common setups ("one Bluetooth, one wired"). And it aligns the two devices when it starts, but doesn't keep correcting as they drift apart, so a long film can still end up out of step. Why does this echo in the first place? Every audio output has its own tiny processing delay before sound actually reaches your ears — a wired speaker is nearly instant, but Bluetooth has to encode, transmit, and decode the signal first, which typically adds anywhere from 100–300ms depending on the codec and device. Play the exact same audio stream through both at once with no correction, and your brain hears the same sound arrive twice a fraction of a second apart — that's the echo. Fixing it means giving the faster device a matching delay so both arrive together, which is exactly what a per-device delay control is for.

- They install a driver, so they need admin rights. Both add a virtual audio device to Windows and change your system's audio configuration globally, usually with a reboot. On a work or managed laptop that's often where the attempt ends. It also means uninstalling later isn't always clean.
- You assemble the solution; they supply the parts. VoiceMeeter gives you a mixing desk with input and output buses to wire up. Virtual Audio Cable gives you virtual cables plus an Audio Repeater utility you run per output, with buffer sizes to tune — too small and it crackles under load, too large and it adds delay. Come back in forty minutes and they've separated again, because the slider is a fixed number while the real misalignment keeps growing as the two devices' clocks diverge.
